Please Welcome...

Michael Vaughan, lead character of Agent of Artifice by S. Evan Townsend.

We're meeting Michael by a pool in Miami Beach. White capped waves rolling onto glistening beaches, and is that a cabana or two in the distance? Perhaps the cabana boys will come out to play, too.

Here comes Michael now. Would you look at that swagger.

Hi, Michael Vaughan! Glad to have you on board. Let’s begin, shall we?

Where are you from?

I'd rather not answer that question.  You see, "Michael Vaughan" is not my real name.  Like all adepts (humans with powers beyond that of lesser mortals) I have to use a pseudonym because if someone knows my real name, they would have power over me.  And in order to keep my identity secret, I don't talk about my past and certainly not where I'm originally from.  I did do my apprenticeship with an adept in Salt Lake City.

How did you meet Maria?

I first met Maria in the Hotel Nacional in Havana, Cuba.  It was Thanksgiving weekend, 1958 (the Thanksgiving before Castro's revolution took over the island nation).  She was having lunch with Vinnie Scarpelli, the mob boss of the hotel's casino.  I needed to talk to him about setting up a poker game because I was running low on funds.

And what did you think of her when you first met?

I didn't like her.  She was rude, dismissive, and pretended not to speak English.  Later, in late 1959, I met her in West Berlin and she was a completely different woman: friendly, gregarious, and she spoke English perfectly.  Claimed to be an actress but I'm still wondering if that meeting was a coincidence and who she really works for.  Either the KGB or Cuba's equivalent, the DGI, I suspect.  Which means she was in Havana in 1958 helping Castro's revolution.

Why the beef between you and Houser?

It's complicated.  Houser thought I was loyal to Kader in the battle between them for primacy in the guild.  I wasn't exactly loyal to Kader but I didn't like Houser at all.  But Houser keeps trying to kill me because he thinks I'm a threat.  I'm really not.  I don't care who runs the guild.  Houser's multiple assassination attempts caused me to have to join the CIA.  That at least gives me the money and mobility to avoid Houser and his minions.

What’s your favorite:

Eagles.  I envy their ease in flying: the power, speed, and grace they exhibit.  Just don't know if I want to eat raw fish and rodents.

I miss my mother's home cooking.  It was plain but hearty stuff.  But I can never go home again lest someone trace me back to my real name.  I tend to eat in a lot of restaurants and I like Italian food the best.  This came in handy when I worked for the mob in Chicago for a couple of weeks.

Type of music

Growing up all I heard was church music or what my mother would play on our piano (a huge extravagance for our dirt-poor farm family).  My master whom I apprenticed with in Salt Lake City preferred classical and had lovingly preserved 78s with his favorite pieces.   But I like the Jazz and Swing of the late 1950s.  It's the stuff I listened to and danced with lovely ladies to in the night clubs of Havana before the revolution.

Place (to visit or otherwise)

Havana before the revolution.  The sunlight there is a wonderful, magical thing, a bright, happy, golden light.  And the nightlife was amazing.  The entertainment was great and the companionship warm.  I'd hang around the Casino Parisien or the Tropicana and watch the shows, hobnob with movie stars, captains of industry, politicians, who were all so pleased to have an adept to introduce to their friends and bring a little intrigue and mystery to their meaningless little lives.  Almost every night I could find a starlet—or a girl wishing to be a starlet—to share my hotel room, as they all wanted bragging rights about having slept with an adept.  I don't think I disappointed too many of them.  And when that didn't work out, there were always the warm, brown local girls.

I don't read a lot, other than guild documents on how to do certain spells.  I guess I'm too busy with my own adventures.  However, growing up I read a lot.  My father said I read too much but he wanted me working on the farm, not with my nose in book.  A book was a treasure, hard to come by and to be hoarded when found.  My favorite authors were Mark Twain and Jules Verne.  The local library had pitifully few books by either, however.

That concludes this interview. I hope you enjoyed the charming wit and mystery surrounding Michael as much as I did. Here's a little info on Agent of Artifice:

They live among us.  We know they are there.  No government can control them; no authority can stop them.  Some are evil.  Some are good.  All are powerful.  They inhabit our myths and fairy tales.  But what if they were real, the witches, wizards, and fairy godmothers?  What if they were called "adepts" and were organized into guilds for mutual protection and benefit?  And what if they started mucking around with the affairs of "lessers" (that is, those humans not able to match their powers)?

During the height of the Cold War, Michael Vaughan is a rogue without a guild.  He survives by working for the CIA as NOC (Non-Official Cover).  Shortly after the funeral of President Joe Kennedy, Jr., he is sent to Cuba to assassinate Castro.  There he finds himself in a cat-and-mouse game with adepts working for Fidel.

And some tidbits on the author himself:

S. Evan Townsend is a writer living in central Washington State. After spending four years in the U.S. Army in the Military Intelligence branch, he returned to civilian life and college to earn a B.S. in Forest Resources from the University of Washington. In his spare time he enjoys reading, driving (sometimes on a racetrack), meeting people, and talking with friends. He is in a 12-step program for Starbucks addiction. Evan lives with his wife and two sons, aged 17 and 20, and has a 22-year old son attending the University of Washington in biology. He enjoys science fiction, fantasy, history, politics, cars, and travel.

Guest of the day: BL Mortica!

Happy Tuesday!

Today, I'm pleased to welcome BL Mortica, author extraordinaire. She's been game enough for a funky interview and has even given us an excerpt. Without further ado:

Welcome aboard! Tell us a little about yourself, please.

BL: I’m BLMorticia, the snarky muse of Sharita Lira. I’m her oldest muse, been with her since she was 19.

What about your latest release?

BL: The latest release is Something Fresh Served Hot, it’s an m/m romantic comedy with a lot of one liners and a little hot sex. It’s basically a story about a homophobe who has some ideas about gay men and gets told by his new boss who has the hots for him.

Ok, let’s get down to the fun stuff. If you were stranded on a lush tropical island, and all of your basic needs were met, what two items would you have with you? What person would be with you? Remember, you’re stuck there for an indefinite period with only each other to occupy the time.

BL: Hmm, oh boy I have to pick just one person? Okay then, I’ll pick favorite model of the moment Daniel Garofali and the two things? Hmm, something that plays music like an IPOD dock and plenty of sex toys like vibes. That might be more than 2 hmm? *laughs* This means there is also an adequate supply of liquor on hand right? O.0

If you could play opposite any of your lead characters, which one would it be and why?

BL: Opposite? It would be Nathan Ellerby from My Lieutenant since he’s the male version of me. We’d really have you laughing. He’s a smartass just like I am.

If you could lead any of your secondary characters, which one would it be and why?

BL: Lead any of my secondary? Not sure what you mean, if you mean play one of them, I’d say, Dalian in my m/f Dream of Dalian story in the All Hallows Eve anthology from Naughty Nights. He’s a vampire, nothing better than being a vamp or with one.

You’re locked in a closet with Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale, three paperclips and a string. How do you get out?

BL: *laughs* Wow, would I want to leave with Johnny in there and bad boy Colin? I’ll use the paperclip to somehow pick the lock and let her out. Ask me later how I’d use the string. *snicker*

Name five things you can do with a pencil.

BL: Write, draw, use the eraser as a teaser on nipples. (Learned that on the net) 2 more? Hmm, use the end as a teaser on the clit, tip of the cock. *giggles*

Who’s your favorite character from your book(s)? Why? Don’t worry, we won’t tell.

BL: Eh, it is still Nathan as I mentioned above. It will be interesting to write My Lieutenant 2 from Lt. Bryant Duncan’s POV though. He can’t be as snarky unless he’s learned some one liners from Nathan.

Where can we find you around the vast interwebs?

Ok, well me at http://blrawiyaerotica.blogspot.com I also write at Erotic Diaries and I do Wicked Wednesday’s with fellow Rebeler Cassandre Dayne as well as a biweekly Saturday post at Blak Raynes.

What about your books? Where are they being sold at?

BL: Right now I have 2 sole author books, Something Fresh Served Hot and My Lieutenant out and 3 shorts, The Prince and the Penis, I Dream of Dalian, and Cocksuckers Complaint. I have author’s pages at Are and Amazon and the latest book is on Smashwords. My Lieutenant is on Bookstrand and B&N also

Thanks for dropping in! Any last words?

BL: Hmm, well I’d like to thank everyone for being so great to me, the Wicked Snarky muse. The books are doing nicely which means me and Michael can jab at one another a little. *grins* Watch out for more from me in 2012. You Don’t Ask, We Don’t Tell the Series from Rebel Ink and Candyman in the Something New on the Menu Series. Thanks Lindsay for having me!

BIO: BLMorticia considers herself the snarky and wicked side of author Sharita Lira so expect her to tap into the taboo and unleash her fantasies on the world through her words. When not writing, she does biweekly posts at fellow author Blak Rayne’s blog,

She does a biweekly post at http://blakraynebooks.blogspot.com, posts with Rawiya at Erotic Diaries and a feature with fellow Rebel Cassandre Dayne called the Wicked Women Wednesdays.

Book One
Something Fresh Served Hot

A gay contemporary comedy which features a Chicago homophobe by the name of Jimmy LaCosta who works at a diner called the Greasy Spoon on the Northside of Chicago near Boys Town. While working, Jimmy meets the incoming manager, Alex Seidling, a young British man who his present boss is hiring to take his place as he retires.

After the initial meeting in which Jimmy feels uncomfortable with Alex's stares, Jimmy cultivates a friendship with Alex which develops into something totally different than he himself expects. This shocks him and he tries to fight it but because of his growing feelings he decides to pursue it despite all of what he has been taught.

Will he do what his body wants? Will Alex accept his advances even though he will soon become Jimmy’s boss?

Excerpt PG

Later on in the day, I was making my way to the john when I noticed Alex sitting down in George’s office looking over some papers. I was on my way out of the place since my shift was over and my hot night with Zena was in the next hour.

When we exchanged glances, he waved his hand at me. “Jimmy, hey, can you step inside a moment, please?”

I exhaled before going into the small space and closed the door behind me. I had been in George’s office a little too many times for my taste so needless to say, when I went in I was a little nervous about talking to the new boss to be in here.

Still, I thought this to be the perfect time to let Mr. Seidling know my boat doesn’t float that way. Once I got in, I sat in the wooden chair in front of the desk.

“Hey, Jimmy. I was just looking over some things and it seems like you’re in need of a raise my friend. How could you just let George stiff you all these years?” Alex shook his head while still glancing at the large sheet of paper.

I cocked an eyebrow. He was definitely right about this observation.

Okay, maybe he ain’t so bad after all.

I ran my hand though my brown mane. “Well, I need the job and um…well, I make okay money, or…”

“No you don’t, Jimmy,” he interrupted. “At the last restaurant I managed, the top cook was making twenty-two bucks an hour. The owner felt it was necessary to pay him well because he kept the customers happy. Not to mention, he was quick, polite…”

I cut him off. “Wait, did you just say twenty-two dollars, an hour?”

Alex chuckled, “Yeah man. You’re only making fourteen. Dude, seriously, you’re getting robbed, yeah. I’ll make sure I let George know he should raise you up to at least eighteen effective immediately.”

My eyes bulged when he said that number. I was trying to keep my excitement in but I couldn’t help it. All the things I could do with making eighteen dollars an hour. A new car, a better apartment than the rat hole I was staying in, and damn, some better clothes. I may be a cook but I like to look good when I step out with the ladies.

“Gods Jimmy, I cannot believe George mimics the guy on that cartoon, what’s his name?” He looked up at the ceiling and snapped his fingers.

I laughed when I thought of my favorite show other than Sportscenter. “Spongebob and you’re talking about Krabs…he’s a tight wad.”

Alex giggled and placed the papers on the furniture in front of him. He locked his eyes with mine, making me a tad uncomfortable. “That show is hilarious.”

We shared a laugh and even though we seemed to be getting along great I had to remember why I was here.

Man, I did come in here to tell him something…oh yeah…

I nodded, “Yep, it’s full of laughs. Hey…um Alex…I was uh, noticing the eye you were giving me earlier.”

Alex raised an eyebrow and smirked. “Yeah?”

Suddenly, I froze. As much as I wanted to tell him to stop staring me down like a piece of meat, I thought twice about how to phrase it, especially since the guy told me that he’d be telling George to give me a four dollar raise. I sighed. “Um, yeah dude, was there a reason why you were looking at me like that?”

Alex smacked his lips together and rolled his eyes. “Oh Jimmy let’s not play games here. You know I was checkin’ you out and don’t tell me that you don’t go that way because I really don’t care that you do. Besides, it’s nothing wrong with looking. Just because I’m taking a gander at your tight fitting jeans to go along with the snug, black tee shirt that you have on, it doesn’t necessarily mean I want you.”

I leaned back in my chair and turned up my lip. “Oh yeah, then what would you call it?” I crossed my legs. I had to hear this.

“Well Jimmy consider this, when you look at a tasty dish that catches your eye on a menu does that mean you have to order it? And, in your terms, being the macho heterosexual that you are, do you go after every girl you see walking by? Maybe you do. Let’s just stick to the first example, yeah?”

This guy’s a card.

It was true what he was saying but then after he completed his sentence, I wondered why he didn’t want me. “Well damn, why don’t you find me attractive?”

“Oh Jimmy, I didn’t say that. I just don’t see why I should order you at this time. There are plenty of obvious reasons. The most important being that you’re so fucking manly it hurts. I can tell just by the way you walked in here that you’re trying way too hard to be a man.” Alex leaned back in his chair with a smug look on his face.

“What? That doesn’t make any sense.” I stuffed my hands in my pockets and looked at him sideways.

“Fuck Jimmy, when we were in the kitchen you weren’t wearing any mitts or using a towel to get hot buns out of the oven. Why? Because you think it might show you as weak. You’re probably one of those who watches sports shows, drinks beer, and puts your hand down your pants while scratching your balls with your legs wide open, just because you think that’s manly.” He put his hands up, signaling quotes. “Ugh, I know you’re your type, Jimmy LaCosta. The name fits you too, Italian American, yeah?”

What the fuck, why did he just read me like a book?

It's that time again! This is a little ditty inspired by a few people I've been wanting to mangle this week. Enjoy!

*VIOLENCE/LANGUAGE are quite possible*

Michelle shuddered as the freaks of evolution rolled into the arena on their bikes. The wide smiles played unnaturally across their cheeks as they honked obnoxious horn and jumped around in bright suits made of noisy, colorful patches.

The children surrounding Michelle and her date, Scott, on the hard stadium seats clapped and cheered. She cast a sidelong glance to her date, who happened to be rapturously engaged in the show as the clowns leaped from ball to bucket and back. What the hell did Venus' Lovers set me up with? A five year old?

Michelle should have known the evening would be sour when Scott had treated her to White Castle for dinner. When the circus rolled to an intermission, Scott stood and grabbed Michelle's hand. A strong tug of her hand had Michelle following him.

"Scott," she protested. "Where are we going?"

"Down there," he replied, pointing to the center ring. "They've got an awesome funhouse."

Michelle grimaced. Not exactly what she wanted to do on a first date. Maybe a romantic dinner and a movie. Hell, a walk through the park. Not traipsing around screaming children as they ran back and forth, surrounded by the wonderful stench of elephant shit.

Scott pulled her past the rides and giant snakes and straight towards the looming entrance of the funhouse. The small building was set off the edge of the ring, away from the crowds, and the people walking by seemed to just ignore it. He pulled Michelle inside, and she found herself suddenly encompassed in darkness.

Blinking, Michelle tried to bring the shadows into focus. "Scott?" she whispered. He didn't reply, and when she felt the empty space surrounding her, the apprehension inside grew. She stepped back and reached for the doorknob, only to find it broken.

"Scott," Michelle said, more forcefully. "This isn't funny."

A soft chuckle resonated from the darkness ahead. "It's lots of fun," Scott whispered from ahead. "Come and play, Michelle."

With no choice, Michelle wandered forward. Her fingers trailed along the wall until she turned the corner to enter a room of mirrors. Her own wide eyes reflected back to her from every surface, and Michelle hesitated.

"Scott?" Silence echoed around her. "Scott, I don't want to play."

"Too late," he whispered, right behind her.

Michelle screamed and turned, but his reflection was on too many surfaces to know which one was real. She scrambled backwards until she finally broke free of the room and ran down another twisting hallway. The narrow space opened into a small banquet hall and Michelle stopped abruptly.

She sniffed and curled her lip. "Is that...almonds?"

A slow clap echoed from somewhere above and a spotlight blinded her. "Congratulations, Michelle," Scott said, his voice resounding around the chamber, from nowhere and everywhere at once. "You seem to be one of the few people who can smell cyanide. Burnt almonds, they say. Do you know what happens to someone when they're exposed to high amounts of cyanide gas, like in this room?"

The doors behind Michelle slammed and she whirled on her heels, straining to see him. "Cyanide?" Visions of emaciated bodies flashed through her mind. "Why?"

"Why?" He laughed as the gas hissed through the vents and filled the room. Michelle could feel it scratching at her throat as her eyes began to water. "Because I fucking hate you. You're my insurance agent, bitch. Burn in hell."

Michelle fell against a table in the corner as her lungs began seizing, and she gripped at her chest and neck. Scott's maniacal laughter filled her ears as her knees hit the floor and blackness filled her vision.

Blog Hop: Casea Major

Howdy! I've got a busy blog today, but hey. The more, the merrier, and I've got the honor of hosting another author form the ever fabulous 1NightStand series from Decadent Publishing, this one by Casea Major. Enjoy a guest blog and excerpt.

Happy reading!

Thanks so much for hosting me on your website today, Lindsay.  It is a privilege.

My story One Knight in Brooklyn is the 42nd story in the ever popular multi-author 1Night Stand series from Decadent Publishing.  The series is based around Madame Evangeline's high-end match making service, 1-Night Stand. With Madame Eve anything is possible. Especially when the date begins in one of the Castillo Hotels and Resorts located around the world. This series has something for everyone, and I am proud to be counted with the talented authors in this group.

One Knight in Brooklyn stemmed from the idea of a 1-night stand with Robin Hood. It's a short erotic comedy romance with time travel and fantasy elements but with contemporary characters.

My inspiration was to take an idealistic young woman and put her in a situation that, by all appearances looked like her fairytale fantasy come true.  Then I wanted to completely shatter her unrealistic ideas with a heavy dose of reality and see what would happen.  What ensues is a fun, zany adventure in Sherwood Forest that forces her to reevaluate her expectations.  It leads her to the conclusion that heroes come in all shapes and sizes and actions speak louder than words.

I love this story and these characters.  They make me laugh and have a lot of heart.

One Knight in Brooklyn
After signing up for a one-night stand through an exclusive matching agency, hopeless romantic Marianne Caldwell is swept away to a medieval land where she hopes to spend the night with a worthy man of honor.

Unsure of how she got from the Castillo Hotel in Las Vegas to a castle in the English countryside, Mare finds Robert, whose stunning physique and winning smile immediately convince her he's the Robin Hood she's been seeking.  But despite his efforts in saving her from a corrupt sheriff, his Jersey Shore accent and coarse ways unravel her romantic visions.

With her fairytale fantasies coming unhinged, Mare must decide if Robert is just a crass car salesman from Brooklyn or the chivalrous knight she's looking for.

The following excerpt is rated PG-13. Please keep in mind that the book does contain adult themes and language, and is not suitable for minors. Thank you.

Excerpt: One Knight in Brooklyn

“Well, Dallas, what did a pretty gal like you expect from this deal?”

There was no way in hell she would answer that question. So she employed her stellar skills of diversion and subterfuge. “What did a guy like you expect from this deal?” Okay, maybe not the cleverest line she’d ever come up with, but this guy with his mesmerizing eyes messed up her mojo.

He leaned back with his elbow on the mattress and flashed a brilliant smile. She swallowed hard. “To get to know a lovely young woman such as yourself and have a little adventure. You think you can handle that?”

Could he be any more cocky? His thinly veiled innuendo struck her with the delicacy of a baseball bat. No question he was hot. From a purely physical standpoint, he was perfection, but did anything rattle around behind those blue eyes?

She crossed her arms over her chest and tilted her chin. “What I want to know is, can you handle that?”

Oops, she hadn’t meant for that to sound like a challenge or an invitation, but even to her own ears, it did. He stood, his long legs closing the distance between them in two strides. She braced her legs to hold her ground, but retreated toward a wall. So much for holding my ground. Pressing her head back against a branch, she looked up into his even stare. God, his eyes were Ceylon blue, his lips full and lush. He stopped in front of her, but continued to lower his head toward hers. Other than the rustling wind, only her ragged breathing sounded amongst the leaves.

Robert braced his hands on either side of her shoulders, effectively trapping her between him and the tree. Every cell in her body buzzed with electrical current, and her gaze helplessly transfixed on him. The lids of his eyes lowered, and his straight nose brushed against hers.

“Can I kiss you?” His whispered request tickled her skin.

Chills swept over her heated body. Her knees gave way, and she sighed out some inaudible response he apparently took as affirmative. He brushed her lips with a kiss.

With agonizing leisure, his mouth eased over hers, first feathering her closed lips then caressing each one between his. His velvety flesh wisped like flower petals against hers, and the aroma of fresh mint scented his breath. The languid motion of his kiss ignited a desire that throbbed all the way down between her legs. The longer he lingered, the hotter she burned. He never sped his pace or reached for her in any other way. It was only a kiss, yet so much more.

His warm tongue slipped between her lips and slowly explored her mouth, sliding across her teeth and stroking her tongue. A soft moan escaped her and excruciating tension built in her core with each lazy thrust.

She wrapped her arms around his waist and trailed her fingers down his hips as she molded to his body. He gasped and ended the kiss. The staggering length of his arousal pressed into her abs and the burn in her sex flared into a raging inferno.

He rested his forehead against the tree, and she laid her hands on his chest with his body lightly molded to hers. The heat radiating between them smoldered hotter than the Vegas asphalt at high noon. His breaths were steady, but his heart pounded against her open palms.

His voice, deep and husky, sounded near her ear. “Maybe. Maybe not, Dallas.”

She opened her eyes. “Huh?”

He kept his eyes closed and rubbed his cheek against hers. “I was just answering your earlier question.”

She couldn’t remember the question. She'd be lucky to remember her own name.

Black Lust Blog Stop!

Hello, folks! Welcome back to another fine day on another fine blog tour! Today, I'm welcoming Karyn Gerrard, author of Black Lust. She's answered a few questions for your reading pleasure. Enjoy!

Please tell the readers a little about yourself:

I am a middle aged Canadian lady with a vivid imagination and a deep passionate love for plotting. I no longer work so I have the luxury of sitting home every afternoon and plot to my heart's content.
A voracious reader, I only started reading romances five years ago! Shocking, I know. I have certainly embraced the genre and also rediscovered my long dormant love for writing.

How about your latest release

Black Lust is an erotic romance paranormal novella from Evernight Publishing the first of what I hope will be a trilogy and beyond. Lucius Black is the hero, is a Quarter, (1/4 vampire) and he struggles with his life-state. Trevina Patterson is the heroine, your ordinary looking hairdresser who finds herself sucked into Lucius's paranormal world.

There are strong secondary characters in this as well. This is only my second release since my debut in May 2011, so I still have to pinch myself this is happening. *pinch*

What was your primary inspiration for this book?

Hmmm. I will go with the first vampire movie I ever saw on the late show, Dracula (1931) with Bela Lugosi. I was a teenager and fell for the gothic, romantic vampire. Bela played the part on stage in the late 1920's, he seduced the women in the audience into a swoon with his dark, velvet Hungarian voice. It's a parody now, but back then it made an impact. Since I saw that old black and white movie on the late show, I have loved vampires. So thrilled to have one of my own published~

Do you have any muses?

I would say my hubby. I would not be published without him urging me on to submit something I wrote. Since he is a school teacher he is also my live-in editor as such. Not so much the grammar/punctuation (he doesn't have time to go over my writing line-by-line) but I read him my writing aloud to get feedback on the plotting, flow and characters. His input has been invaluable. And his support, he's my hero.

Do you control your characters or do they flog you into shape?

A little of both, depends on the characters and the story I am working on. I am a pantser so sometimes I sit and write and the characters go off in directions I never planned, I love when that happens!

When you write, is there a special routine you follow?

Not really, a full pot of Earl Grey tea, my comfy slouchy clothes, usually music playing in the background. From movie soundtracks, classical, current hard rock to 60's-80's I find music a great accompaniment to writing. Doesn't distract me at all.

If you could be one animal, person, or at a place for a day what/who/where would it be?

Interesting! I would love to be an eagle, and fly all day. To experience it once would be a thrill. I have had a few of those flying dreams. Maybe I should write a shape-shifter story!

Five random facts about you:

Love the Red Sox (but not the historic swoon and crash they took in Sept)
I sometimes use the Sims 2 game as a storyboard for my characters and plots, strange but it works for me~
Love old movies, I can whip just about anyone's ass in Trivial Pursuit Silver Screen edition
Love to travel, hubby and I have been all over North America, the UK is calling, we are hoping to get to Scotland and Ireland in the next five years.
I am a homebody, I don't miss working. Family is everything to me, so is the hubs.

Are you working on any new releases later this year?

I have an upcoming release Dec 18 with Silver Publishing called Christmas Memories.
I also just finished a sequel to my time travel novella "Timeless Heart (May 2011) Needs editing and submitting, 'time' will tell if it sees the light of day. Also have the 2 sequels to Black Lust done. I better get off my duff and start editing and submitting.

Anything else you’d like to say?

Thanks for having me! I would love it if you check out my books, I write hot sensual, erotic romance and multi-genre. I hope to be around for awhile.
To any aspiring writers, keep moving forward until you type 'the end', and then submit! You never know what will appeal to an editor/publisher.

Contact info:

Black Lust:

Lucius Black lives a debauched and wild nightlife. Being a ‘Quarter’ (1/4 vampire), blood and sex are what he is. However, his existence wears thin after a century of hedonistic pleasure.

Trevina Patterson lives a quiet, happy life running a hair salon in a village on the east coast of the United Kingdom. It was a perfect life and all she could ask for, until a chance encounter with Lucius Black.
What was it about him that was so unsettling and yet so attractive?

For Lucius, no woman had ever been enough, until Trevina. She awakened in him feelings he had not thought possible. Passions considered by him to be little more than vampiric mythology. She awakened his...black lust.

The Friendly Neighborhood Stalker

It's Wednesday, and I'm back! A little flash fiction featuring two characters from a piece I'm currently working on. We'r eon draft # 7, to be specific. Fun, fun. Yay! Don't forget to check out the other great flashers at the end of the blog! Unfortunately, NaNoWriMo has stolen some from us, but they'll be back in force, I'm sure.

Shifting uncomfortably in the hard backed wood chair, I aerated my dry lemon chicken and ignored the scathing looks from my mother. Why I agreed to come to dinner a week after my drug addicted twin sister’s disappearance into downtown Cincinnati was beyond me. My husband, Dalton, nudged my knee under the table; at least he’d held to his promise of accompanying me.

“Beth.” My mother’s shrill voice pulled my attention away from the unfortunate chicken. Martina Malone was not one to beat around the bush. A slight woman, she seemed physically frail but appearances can be deceiving. When armed with a spatula, she could be quite vicious. “Have you spoken with your sister?”

“Yes, mother,” I replied, focusing on the flowered wallpaper just behind her head. Dad kept his eyes down, pretending not to hear the conversation while Dalton shifted uncomfortably. “She’s staying with a friend downtown.”

“With a friend.” Martina snorted. “Frank, did you hear that? Beth has fallen for Emily’s oldest trick.”

“Excuse me?” I interjected, stabbing the air with my fork. “Did I just hear you right? You think Emily has, what. Pulled the wool over my eyes?” Leaning back in my chair, I threw my napkin on the table. “Thanks for that vote of confidence, Mom.”

“Well, what else am I supposed to think? Huh? While you’re sitting here eating dinner with us, your twin is out there rotting in some crack house.” Martina stood, gathering her half eaten plate and shaking her head.

“You invited us to dinner,” I retorted, standing. Dalton grabbed my arm, but I yanked it away angrily, sparing him a seething glance. “How am I supposed to take care of Emily and work, too?”

Martina threw her plate, and mashed potatoes stuck to the wall like spackle as she burst into tears. “You should be taking care of her.” She fell to her knees, burying her face in her apron.

“I can’t take care of the whole world.” Desperate for help, I looked to my father. He shook his head, as usual. Dalton was looking between my mother and me, unsure of what to say.

“Your family should come before those worthless crack heads at your so-called job!” Stunned, I stared at my mother for a moment before storming out of the dining room and grabbing for my keys.

Dalton grabbed my arm before I reached the front door. “Beth, wait.”

Whirling on him, I broke his grip and stepped back. “What?” Hurt flowed through me; how could he just sit there and let me take that abuse?

“Where are you going?”

I swallowed back tears. “I don’t – I just need to clear my head.”

“I’m sorry, okay? I don’t know how to handle that kind of thing.” Dalton glanced towards his feet, stuffing his hands in his pockets.

“You could have just said back off. That’s all.” I stepped towards him, laying a hand on his chest. “See you later.”

He didn’t stop me when I shut the front door, nor did he come after me when I sat in my truck with tears streaking down my cheeks. Wiping angrily at them, I fumbled to put the key in the ignition. Ding-a-bink-a-ding! Cursing under my breath, I pulled the phone out and opened the message. Just what I needed. My sister’s drug dealer.

Rough night, Beth?

A chill washed over my skin. Suddenly paranoid, I glanced around the dark neighborhood. “Why doesn’t Cincinnati believe in street lamps?” I managed to get the truck turned on before replying. Are you watching me?

That’s a nice truck you have.

My breath caught in my throat, tightening my chest. Gripping at the locket I wore under my shirt with a picture of Emily, I contemplated the best course of action. After a moment of debate, I turned off the truck. Where are you?

Wouldn’t you like to know?

Gritting my teeth, I gathered my thoughts. “He’s watching me. If I can just make it back to the house I’ll be safe.” Is Emily with you? I had to distract him.

I was opening the door when he replied. Nolan was lightning fast on his keyboard. No, she’s on a high running around somewhere. Kids these days.

“God damn it.” I already knew my night would be spent searching the streets for my sister. A muscle in my jaw popped. And you’re watching me? Are you high?

Hopping out of the truck, I shut the door softly and prepared to sprint. The phone vibrated in my hand. No, he wrote, I don’t use. That stuff rots your teeth.

Gathering my muscles to run, I about had a heart attack when a man stepped from the shadows in front of me. I dropped my phone and stumbled backwards, flattening myself against the truck. He was half cast in shadow, but I recognized him. Tall and lean, Nolan could glance over the top of my truck with ease. He leaned against the driver side door as though he belonged there, crossing his arms over his chest. His sleeves slid up, exposing intricate tattoos. “Running away from me?” he asked nonchalantly in a voice of liquid velvet. “Don’t go breaking my heart now, Beth.”

Blog Stop: Ann Mayburn!

Well, hello again, and happy Monday! Am I allowed to say that or will my laptop implode on itself? Today, I'm glad to welcome Ann Mayburn, author of The Breaker's Concubine. As you can tell by the cover, this is a hot little piece from Loose ID publishing. She's on board today with an interview and excerpt, so without further ado:

Please tell the readers a little about yourself:

I’m a 35 yo mom of three boys under six, a daydreamer and a huge fan of strong women who endure the worst life has to offer and still come through with their dignity and sense of humor intact.

I decided to start writing in June of '10 after the pre-mature birth of my third son. He was born at 31 weeks, nine weeks early, and it was a very rough delivery. I lost a great deal of blood and had some touch and go moments. While I was recovering from my c-section, without my baby, I had a lot of time to think. In my morphine pumped induced state, I considered all the things that I'd done and what I still wanted to do.

I'd had A LOT of fun in my life, and marrying my husband and having my children was a joy that I can never fully explain. One thing I'd wanted to do was write a book. I've always been a heavy reader, my husband used to moan at my monthly bills from the bookstore, and I have an over-active imagination. The trouble was focusing my ADD 'Oh look a squirrel, oh look a penny' self to sit down and write.
Basically, I stopped making excuses about why I couldn't do it, and sat down and DID it. I found that once I started, I couldn't stop. My muse went into overdrive and I have more ideas than I have hours in the day. I’ve been so fortunate to find myself surrounded by supportive publishers and fantastically helpful authors. The romance community has to be one of the most loving, gracious communities out there.

How about your latest release?

‘The Breaker’s Concubine’ is my first foray into the world of Sci-Fi romance as a writer, but not a reader. I’ve found that the same kind of intense world building and imagination that goes into paranormal romance can be found in Sci-Fi romance and I adore it. Trust me when I say ‘The Breaker’s Concubine’ isn’t your Dad’s Sci-Fi. It’s a hot, steamy, sometimes hard to read book about Kyrimia a world where every aspect of reproduction is carefully controlled and being a Concubine is considered a great honor. Unfortunately, our hero Devnar is from another planet, captured when he raids the wrong space ship, and finds himself being trained as a Concubine by a beautiful and passionate Breaker named Melania. I don’t want to give away anymore of the plot, but I will say that things are not always as they seem and those that have read it have been quite surprised at how things turn out. ;)

What was your primary inspiration for this book?
Forced seduction! I love reading about it when it’s done right, and by that I mean we are deep inside the minds of our characters and know that even though they are saying ‘No’ we understand that what they really mean is ‘yes yes yes!’ but they can’t say it for a variety of reasons. It is important that the reader knows that forced seduction and rape are as opposite as can be and one can never be mistaken for the other.

Do you have any muses?

Yes, a really mean one:

Do you control your characters or do they flog you into shape?

My characters are irritating. :P I’ll be writing a perfectly lovely scene, going with the flow, and all of a sudden they pull the rug out from underneath me. The story I have in mind vanishes and I’m left standing all alone, holding my proverbial pen with nothing to write. Then I have to go back into the story and find out what isn’t working and fix it to their liking until they’ll let me write again. Quite annoying. ;)

When you write, is there a special routine you follow?

Well, if you consider madly dashing for the keyboard whenever my kids are all happy, fed, and occupied a routine, then yes I follow a special one. ;)

If you could be one animal, person, or at a place for a day what/who/where would it be?

I’d like to go to Heaven and make sure I’m doing what they need me to be doing down on earth. Yes, I realize that to some people a religious author of smut hot enough to burn your fingers seems odd to some people, but I’m cool with that. While I may not be the biggest fan of organized religion I love God and God loves me so that’s all I need to know.

Five random facts about you:

I love Norman Rockwell paintings.
I crochet.
I’ve always wanted to go to Amsterdam.
We have a Maine Coon kitten named King George who thinks he’s a dog.
I live in the mountains and have a totally bad ass sledding hill in our back yard.

The Breaker's Concubine:

Erotic Sci-Fi Romance with BDSM/Forced Seduction elements

Prince Devnar of Jensia is goaded into raiding the wrong space ship, springing a trap that captures him for use as a Royal pleasure slave, a Concubine, on Kyrimia. He vows  to do everything he can to escape and keep from forming a psychic bond with his captors that would render him absolutely and totally in love. This proves difficult to do when  the female Breaker assigned to turn him into a Concubine, Melania, is the epitome of his perfect woman.

Melania has been raised and trained to help reluctant and abused Novices to break through their personal blocks and attain the ultimate prize of becoming a Concubine.  When she is given Devnar to train, she finds herself in danger of doing the forbidden and falling in love with her Novice. This angry, scarred, and utterly seductive male tests her self-control like no other.

Devnar and Melania find themselves at the heart of a galaxy wide political battle that will test a love that they must not acknowledge, and cannot live without, to its very limits.

About the Author:

Ann is Queen of the Castle to her wonderful husband and three sons in the mountains of   West Virginia. In her past lives she's been an Import Broker, a Communications Specialist,   a US Navy Civilian Contractor, a Bartender/Waitress, and an actor at the Michigan Renaissance Festival. She also spent a summer touring with the Grateful Dead-though she will deny to her children that it ever happened. From a young age she's been fascinated by myths and fairytales, and the romance that often was the center of the story. As Ann grew older and her hormones kicked in, she discovered trashy romance novels. Great at first, but she soon grew tired of the endless stories with a big wonderful emotional buildup to really short and crappy sex.

Never a big fan of purple prose, throbbing spears of fleshy pleasure and wet honey pots make her giggle, she  sought out books that gave the sex scenes in the story just as much detail and  plot as everything else-without using cringe worthy euphemisms. This led her to the wonderful world of Erotic Romance, and she's never looked back.

Now Ann  spends her days trying to tune out cartoons playing in the background to get  into her 'sexy space' and has learned to type one handed while soothing a  cranky baby.
