Please Welcome...

My special guest today, Shaun. He's the lead character in JoAnn Kenrick's Sweet Irish Kiss, part of Decadent's One Night Stand series, and I think you'll get a giggle and some insight into this incredible man. Enjoy, and be sure to check the end of the interview for all the contact and buy links!

Lindsay: “Thanks for being on the blog, Shaun Bell! Glad to have you on board. Let’s begin, shall we?”

Shaun: “Sure, but ya got til them there doors open for business. I've got a bar to run, so I do!” Shaun ushers Lindsay to sit at his bar. He pours her a Sweet Irish Kiss and waits for her reaction. “Well, what do you think?”

Lindsay's face puckers with the rush of alcohol. “Where are you from? Have you always wanted to be behind a bar?”

Shaun: “Sure, I come from a long line of brewers and pub owners in Belfast. Me family moved here and brought this here bar twenty years ago. My Da passed the license for the place onto me five years ago as a wedding present, just before he moved back to Belfast a few years back. Ha, bet he is glad he didn't just hand the place over as he suggested, because me ex wife would have had claims to the place, otherwise. No doubt she'd have tried dipping her hands in the money pot. But ya can leave that part out of the interview. Sometimes my mouth runs away with me.” Shaun wipes down the bar and checks his watch, seemingly antsy to get the interview done with. “Especially when I'm nervous, and I don't mind admitting I'm nervous about my first date with Rachel.”

Lindsay smiles. “How did you meet Rachel?”

Shaun fidgets in his seat and looks away. “The lass I'm going on a date with tomorrow night? Don't ya laugh now, but I've not met her yet. All I know is her name and that she is really creative, works somewhere in London as a window dresser. Madame Eve, that's the woman who runs the match-making site I used, assures me she is perfect for me and I've heard she rarely if ever gets her matching wrong."

Lindsay: “Why would a stud like you use a match-making site?”

Shaun: “I've barely got time to breath these days, let alone find someone 'nice' I can date. Me ex wife was a shocker, running off with the iron-monger from down the street...with half me life savings. Not sure I want that ta happen again, but I do want to settled down and find someone to love. And I'm useless around women, never tell the gooden's from the badden's."

Lindsay pauses to interpret gooden's and badden's. “How do you get on with Devlin Kinney, your full-time barman? Is he single, still?”

Shaun: “I've no problem with Devlin, just wish he'd watch his crude mouth from time to time, so I do. The times he's got me in trouble with his crass talk. Yes, he's still single. Bit of a ladies man...and the bugger gets all the hot women. Needless to say, he can't hold on to them. Honestly, I hope he finds a good woman to keep him in check soon.” Shaun checks his watch. “Almost time for opening, any last questions before I let in the punters?”

Lindsay: “What’s your favorite animal?”

Shaun: “What blog did ya say this was for again?”

Lindsay: I run a blog for readers with voracious appetites.

Shaun: “So...lots of ladies who read romance are going to be reading this? I wonder if me da will see it? Will ya be sure to post the url to Bell's Irish Pub at the end of the interview? Ya know, just in case? He'll be ever so proud so see his pub getting attention.”

Lindsay: “ Sure. So, what's your favorite food?”

Shaun: “Pint of Beamish and a packet of Cheese and Onion Crisps. I'm pretty useless in the kitchen, but put me behind the bar and ya see my true worth!”

Lindsay: “Type of music?”

Shaun: “Nothing better than live music night in me pub, has me jiggin behind the bar. And I've got tickets to see Mumford & Sons next week. Those lads are entertaining, and it is great to see them making a success of it all. Maybe if me date goes well with Rachel, she can come along and get a taste of me..erm I mean of what I like. If not, I'll take Devlin. Sandra can take care of the bar for me. She's a cracker, like a mum to me. Says she's just a part-timer, but she's more or less here all the time.”

Lindsay: “Authors?”

Shaun laughs. “I own a bar, and struggle to find time for love...what on earth makes you think I've got time to escape in some fan-tangled story? Wait, Sandra's always got a book behind the bar..she loves the paranormal romances. Vampires, shifters...all that crap. Let's see." Shaun rummages under the bar and produces a paperback. "Amoveo legacy? What the heck is that? See, told you, she reads weird stuff.” He puts the novel back in it's rightful place, in Sandra's hiding place under the bar, and checks his watch yet again. “Right that's it. Ya time is up, lady. It's opening time. Hold on to ya knickers, because once those doors open, it can get pretty hard to move in here.”

Sweet Irish Kiss:

Ingredients for a perfect Irish Kiss; Baileys, Kahula, and whipped cream. For a Sweet Irish Kiss...just add Shaun Bell, a divorced workaholic bar-owner in Soho, London. Line up ladies. He's ready to love again.

Rachel Taylor was damaged by Daddy Dearest's play-away from home attitude. She wants to put her best foot forward. Only problem is, she stumbles backward each time she tries.

The 1NightStand match-making site brings this pair together for a night of guilt and commitment free sex. It's a match made in heaven until morning rolls around and Shaun can't bring himself to say goodbye. Can he win her over with his Sweet Irish Kiss, or will Rachel still see the neon "potential cheater" sign above his head?

Guest Blogger LeeAnn Burke is Going Pink

Hello, folks! Today, I'm proud to welcome LeeAnn Burke, author of Deadly Secrets. She's making a generous donation to the American Breast cancer Foundation, with $1 of each book sold going to the organization. Let's help save the ta-ta's! Without further ado, here she is:

Please tell the readers a little about yourself:

Well, my name is Leeann and I write romantic suspense books. I currently live in the Ottawa region in Ontario Canada. I have tried different genre of books, but I always seem to kill someone off which is how I discovered that romantic suspense and/or mystery writing is for me.

How about your latest release?

DEADLY SECRETS (ISBN 1897370695) takes place in Montreal and Shawinigan Quebec. It’s Philippe and Roxanne’s story. Philippe, a well known writer’s life is thrown upside down when the grandfather he never knew existed, dies. He investigates the reason and learns that his mother has kept secrets from him. Deep, ugly secrets. A killer is murdering the men in his family.  Roxanne St-Clair is left to manage a restaurant when her foster parent and mentor, is murdered. Together they put their lives on hold to find his killer and bring him to justice. Time is ticking because the next victim has been selected and it’s Philippe. Roxanne is determined not to let another person she loves be taken from her, but will she be too late.

What was your primary inspiration for this book?

I have to confess DEADLY SECRETS is the third version of this book. The only things I have kept are the locations and the names. Everything else changed. I wanted to keep Shawinigan in the book because it held a special place in my heart. I grew up there for 8 wonderful years.

Do you have any muses?

Not really.

Do you control your characters or do they flog you into shape?

I have absolutely no control over any of my characters. They come to me full of attitudes and problems. I get the pleasure of putting them to paper.

When you write, is there a special routine you follow?

I used to write every day. However since I bought Lachesis Publishing with partners my schedule has completely changed. I try and write a few times a week, but that doesn’t always work because as far as I’m concerned my authors and the publishing house come first.

If you could be one animal, person, or at a place for a day what/who/where would it be?

If I could be someone different for one day I’d want to be Anne of Green Gable. I loved that character when I read the books and watched the movies. She always seemed to have it together.

Five random facts about you:

Well let’s see

1 It took me 22 years to get published
2 I am an avid reader and have over 1,500 books in my to be read pile
3 I own part of Lachesis Publishing now
4 I strongly believe in giving to others and charities. I haven’t always had money to give to charities so I used to give my time instead. I still do. Breast Cancer is one I hold close to heart because when I was 15 my mother found lumps in her breast thankfully they weren’t cancerous, but I have lost two dear friends to the disease. That’s why I am donating all of my royalties to breast cancer research.
5 I a huge cookie fanatic – one of my nickname growing up was cookie monster.

Are you working on any new releases later this year?

Not at the moment. I am currently working on the sequel to DEADLY SECRETS.

Anything else you’d like to say?

In honor of Breast Cancer month my publisher has discounted the ebook price for DEADLY SECRETS to $2.99, but the best part is that they will be donating an extra $1 from each copy sold to the American Breast Cancer Foundation (www.abcf.org). Please pass on the word. The more copies we sell the bigger donation we can offer to the ABCF. http://lachesispublishing.com/proddetail.asp?prod=DeadlySecrets

A little about Deadly Secrets:

Philippe Lafrance is a well-known reclusive writer whose life is suddenly thrown upside down when the grandfather he never knew existed, dies. He investigates the reason and learns that his family has kept secrets from him. Deep, ugly secrets. Worse, a killer is murdering the men in his family. He discovers that his father, then his grandfather, were murdered by someone desperate to keep secrets buried.

Bereft, Roxanne St-Clair is left to manage a restaurant when the only person who ever mattered to her, her foster parent and mentor, is murdered. She puts her life on hold to find his killer and bring him to justice.

Thrown together by circumstance and a mutual goal, Philippe and Roxanne fight their attraction and team up to find the killer, bring him to justice and unearth the truth. To stay alive, they must keep one step ahead of the assassin in order to prevent him from killing his next target, Philippe.

Will they succeed in bringing to justice this killer before Philippe becomes his next victim? Will they be able to deal with the truth behind the deadly secrets?

And about the author:

At the age of 12 Leeann put pen to paper and created stories. She finished her first and only short story within weeks. She kept on writing through high school, university and her first few dead end jobs. To this day she still has a pen and paper handy.

After 22 years of writing she finally got “the call”. The owner of LBF Books called to let me know she wanted to purchase DEADLY SECRETS. Her dream was finally coming true. She decided to give her dream more purpose by donating funds to the American Breast Cancer Foundation (ABCF) and to a Canadian organization that does Breast Cancer Research. DEADLY SECRETS is also a proud sponsor for ABCF. THE BOOK

Thanks for dropping by, LeeAnn!

Forest Wanderer

It's Wednesday again, and you know what that means!

FLASH FICTION!

Here's the simple offering this week, not quite 1,000 words. Enjoy, and don't forget to check out the other flashers!

Thick green leaves tore from branches as the young woman flew by them, frantically running for her life. She panted for breath, her bare feet expertly weaving among roots reaching up from the forest floor in a vain effort to trip her as the heavy boots of intruders gained on her. Her black hair fanned out behind her and shimmered in the moonlight, slicing suddenly to the left or right with her sharp movements.

Why did she have to wander so far? Her mother warned her against such things. There are some things in life you never learn, Onatah, she thought. She’d lost the trail, the familiar, worn path so well traveled by her ancestors for centuries and wove her way to close to the roaring ocean. The savory salty air pulled her in and she only wanted to glimpse the water once before she followed her path back home.

But the men in gleaming silver armor had spotted her and licked their lips once before the chase began. They carried long pieces of metal that shot out pellets of poison the likes of which young Onatah had never seen, and she knew if they caught her she would never see her family again.

Using the brightest star in the night sky, Onatah wound her way through the trees and prayed for the elusive forest goddess to drop down and help her. A flash of white to her right briefly distracted her and a root caught her foot.

Onatah landed face first in a pile of mud and leaves. Coughing and gasping for breath, she pushed herself up and turned to see three men closing in on her quickly. Wide eyed with fear, she scrambled to gain her footing, but the mud was too slippery and she floundered and fell again. The men laughed, the sound cruel and harsh on her young ears. They spoke in a language she’d never heard before, and Onatah furrowed her brow in confusion and shook her head. Tears streamed down her face.

A man stepped in front of her. From the angle she sat in, Onatah could see his great, round belly underneath the armor, dark with hair and filth. She shuddered, thinking of that on her virgin skin, and closed her eyes.

The snap of a twig nearby brought the men into a frenzy. Nervous, they pulled their weapons into a ready position and waved them around frantically, seeking the creature that made the noise. A whisper made them jump, followed by a tinkling laugh. Onatah froze. Could it be?

Could the goddess have come to save her?

She hardly dared to breathe as the men huddled together, back to back, for safety. The forest seemed to sigh around them, every tree shifting in unison as though they took a step back. Onatah gasped when a woman landed in a neat crouch in front of her.

The woman’s shock of white blonde hair brushed the ground at her feet, and her leather skirt slit up both sides to the thigh. Another piece of leather was tied across one shoulder and draped down to cover her breasts, and across her lithe stomach lay a sheathe of weapons. What appeared at first glance to be a large stick was actually a carefully molded staff forged of the bark of a petrified tree.

When she stood to her full height, she was deceptively demure. Onatah found herself being dragged away by a set of invisible hands just as the goddess looked at her and winked. “Onatah,” said a handsome man with ice blue eyes and the same white hair as the goddess. “Your village is just over this hill. Go now.”

Without a backwards glance, she ran.

~End~

Six Sentence Sunday

Picking up from where we left off before I forgot to sign up for this lovely little list. LOL

Rain poured down the window to her left. “Hey,” he said with an enthusiastic smile.

“Hey,” she replied, trailing off when she couldn’t bring his name to mind. “How’ve you been?” Nervous, Adelaide adjusted her glasses and tucked her hair behind her ears. It wasn’t everyday a Congressman’s assistant spoke to a lowly paralegal at Capitol Hill.

That's it for this week! Have a great one, everybody.

Guest Blogger Dakotah Black

Happy Saturday!

And what better way to celebrate than a guest blogger? Today, I welcome Dakotah Black, talented author of Pinked. Enjoy!

On community living:

COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION LIVING IS DANGEROUS TO YOUR HEALTH
Dakotah Black

What – you think I’m kidding? I’m been an association manager for well too long and I can tell you being so up close and personal that it’s no picnic. Now why would I say that? Well… let me count the ways. I have the highest designation which takes years to achieve – PCAM (Professional Community Association Manager) and that sad part is – it hasn’t seemed to matter. During the now twenty years I’ve worked with some of the most difficult people who have been everything from attorneys to politicians and almost all of them know how to manage communities. It’s been a tough job and I honestly wouldn’t recommend it for anyone unless they have a lot of patience and some of the stories I could write for real would blow you away. People seem to love to argue who live in homeowners associations and I think that’s that nature of being human but it’s really troublesome. When people ask me what I do I always tell them I’m a professional babysitter of large children. I also talk about kids playing in the sandbox quite a bit.

Now, it’s really not that I’m bitter. We all have careers in industries that can be difficult from time to time. At least managing communities has given me delicious and very wicked ideas. I’ve also had the joy of working with some of the sweetest folks who strive to do nothing in their community but make every life better.

But I’m not giving you rather wicked stories about the nice folks. That wouldn’t be any fun, would it? In truth I’ve been embroiled in lawsuits about everything from the wrong placement of a satellite dish to the reason owners can’t pay their assessments all the way to the extreme including the fact that the wrong color flowers were planted. I kid you not. I’ve been threated with a gun on more than one occasion, lawsuits – just about every week and bodily harm in the weirdest of ways, which I’m saving for use in my books.

What some owners don’t understand is that developers are generally forced these days to make a neighborhood an association with dues and rules to follow. Unfortunately many homeowners are far too busy to actually READ the rules most state laws allow them the time to digest before they sign on the dotted line. Then they move in and gasp at the fact they can’t paint their house purple or plant anything they want wherever they want. So the conflicts begin. Can you imagine sitting in a room with grown individuals who argue literally for hours about allowing a fifteen-inch tall statue in the front or a seventeen inch? Guess what – I’m not exaggerating at all.

What exactly is PINKED going to be about? A twist of course. Since burnout rate for managers is three years you can see I’ve way over due for a crack in the armor. PINKED is in truth a highly comical side of associations where almost anything can and will happen. My worlds are campy and fun and allow me to ponder killing some of those people who’ve attempted to make my life a living nightmare. You know what they say, kill them off in a book. So I have in the most creative and bizarre fashion.

The series is set in a fictional gated community association and you’ll always have some regular players including Nicky French, a ballsy girl who takes no… well not a lot of… to the hero sexy cop, Tyler Deverall who has to deal with the insanity of the murders and Mick St. Simons – a very passionate Aussie implant and the bar owner of The Flamingo Rustler – the happenin’ bar and grill located smack across the street from the gated community. Leopard’s Pointe is a huge homeowner’s association with several sub associations and lots of wicked personalities. Scheduled right now for sixteen books you’re going to get a taste of every wacko living in and out of the community. Throw in a hint of the mafia, a lot of interesting politicians and a burly chef who can make a mean seafood pasta and it’s going to be a lot of fun.

The website is going to become more and more interactive with The Flamingo Rustler not only having its own page but recipes created just for the series. Join me at http://www.dakotahblack.com. I also have a blog spot nestled in the website which is http://dakotahblack.wordpress.com/ where I’ll give you tastes and snippets.

I look forward to having you as a part of my world and here’s the premise for the first story. Let me know if you have any wicked and wild tales – I do change the names of the innocent or not so innocent but we can always plan their demise in tantalizing fashions. dakotah@dakotahblack.com

Here’s a little taste of my first – see what you think.

PINKED – COMING FROM REBEL INK PRESS ON OCTOBER 17TH

“Nicky! Your God damned beefcake hotshot developer has managed to get his fat ass impaled on the pool gates. Now I’ve got blood everywhere and people screaming. What are you going to do about it?” The gravelly chastising voice bellowed like a bull in a china shop, insistent and imploring. The man was cranky as hell.

And it pissed the bejesus out of her. “Who the hell are you?” Nicky French fumbled in the dark trying to make sense of why in God’s name she had answered the phone at all in the middle of the night. She sat up. The blood bammed against her forehead so hard it was like tiny and very noisy munchkin men were inside her brain beating to the tune of Michael Jackson’s Beat It.

She thrashed in the direction of the phone and her hand slamming into something. The crash was loud enough to wake the dead. “Holy fuck!”

“What do you mean who is this? Get a grip girl! Do your job! This is Ray!”

Nicky struggled with the covers that had captured her like a prisoner of war, tumbled out of bed and fell directly onto her face. “Ray who?”

“Your God damned Board President. That’s who! You know, the one your lousy firm works for?”

Nicky fought her way to the bathroom, cordless phone still in her hand. Ray Switzer. Oh yeah. Famous in his mind anyway. The cranky old guy ran -- and she merely thought the words with a chagrin on her face -- ran the Board at Leopard’s Pointe, the Premiere Community Association in Chesterfield. Yeah right. She growled. “Ah...Ray. Why exactly are you calling me again in the middle of the night?”

“Are you deaf, girl? The damn developer’s down here on the top of the pool gates. Fucker’s dead as a damn doornail. Causing quite a stir too I might add. Shit woman, I think a party’s ready to break out. Hold on! Marge - stop that. You can’t take pictures with a dead man for Christ’s sake!” Huffing and puffing rumbled through the phone.

Nicky heard muffled excited voices that had to be hovering directly behind Ray. God, the man drove her absolutely nuts. No, the freaking community drove her nuts. That’s because only nut cases lived there. Yep, her favorite saying remained in the forefront of her mind. You move into a community association, check your brains at the door. Hush girl! Association Management is your chosen profession. Remember?

“No! It won’t make good newsletter material! Sorry Nicky. Damn these women drive me crazy!” Ray huffed.

Who the hell was he talking to? “So are you serious, Ray? Is there really a dead man’s body somewhere in the community?” Groaning, Nicky stabbed at the light. The florescent beams hit her squarely in the eyes. She winced and her head bounced to the moon. Damn! She shouldn’t have had that last fuzzy nipple or pink navel or whatever the hell Ruby forced her to have. Her best friend could make a party out of anything.
“Dead as a damn heart attack, girl. And you wouldn’t believe the rest of it. Get the hell down here now! Oh holy hell! I gotta go, Fred’s bringing out the cheese whiz. Jesus H. Christ! Fred...Fred!

“Ray. Ray!” Snarling, Nicky realized Ray hung up. She dropped the phone with a thud and held onto the bathroom counter. The entire world swooned by her like a bad case of the heebie jeebies. What the hell is the crazed old fool talking about? Somehow she doubted William Barrington the third – and she was required to address the retired ex-New York judge that way -- was somehow nestled into the closed pool in the middle of the night. But then again, she found two kids in the back of the bathroom doing the nasty just last week. And the damned pool had been open what, a week?

Inhaling deeply, Nicky balled her fists and glared at herself in the mirror. She was thirty-one going on a hundred, easily. The damn community had aged her just in the last year alone. There was nothing like two separate cases of raw sewage spewing into several condominium units around a given holiday to boil your blood. She turned on the cool water and splashed a handful in her face remembering she wasn’t on call, not this month. Yet Ray baby knew all of her phone numbers and called her outside of business hours on a regular basis.

Nicky, why haven’t the pool chairs come in?
Nicky, why aren’t we on budget for grounds care?
Nicky, I can’t stand the damn painter. Can’t you fire him and hire another?
     Nicky...
     Nicky!

The majority of the time Nicky felt like a battering ram for the entire community. Still, something was up. Ray wouldn’t call her unless something was going on in the melting pot of humans. The question was, was she sober enough to drive? She fumbled back into the bedroom and stared at the crimson bold-faced digital clock. Three am? How long have I been asleep, like an hour?

Why no officer. I haven’t had a thing to drink. Just going to visit the community I manage in the middle of the freaking night!

You betcha that excuse would fly. All the way to jail.

Review: The Training of Tessa

Hi, folks! I've had the pleasure of reading an ARC copy of The Training of Tess by Tessa Wanton. Following is a review and a short excerpt. Enjoy!

The Training of Tessa

Tessa had always been fascinated with the Dominant submissive lifestyle, and she was ? she felt, a very submissive person.  In her real life people knew her as a feisty, headstrong and passionate woman, no one would ever have described her as submissive.  But then she had learned over time that being submissive didn?t mean she had to be a doormat, it meant to her that she wanted to hand over her control, her welfare, her safety, to someone else.  Throughout her life she had maintained an iron grip on her personal control, organized to the extreme in her work and home life, highly respected in her profession as a Personal Assistant, so used to controlling others to ensure success.  But what she truly wanted deep down inside, was a man who could take her to that special place of freedom she had heard and read so much about, to experience true freedom within her mind.

She had signed up to a lifestyle website to learn more about what it was to attain this  ?sub-space? she had heard about.  Peppering her profile with photographs she felt were ?artistic?, and writing a personal passage about who she was had attracted plenty of admirers, but no one she had particularly connected with.  She wasn?t looking to find a soul mate, or even a playmate, just someone to discuss her thoughts and passions and desires with.  It was out of the blue that a message had dropped into her inbox.

This intriguingly daring and fiery novella describes three encounters experienced by a young woman, who, whilst fascinated by BDSM throughout her life, had not had the courage or opportunity to experiment in the scene, until now...

The Training of Tess is a quick read. I enjoyed Tessa’s character and found her intriguing from the opening lines. Her nervous straightening of her skirt immediately shows a flaw in her otherwise collected demeanor at work, and also demonstrated the effect this otherwise unknown man has on her when they’ve yet to even meet.

The author expertly assesses the fears and doubts Tessa experiences and allows us to see into her mind in a beautifully structured internal dialogue. Through her eyes, we see what Tessa sees, feel what she’s feeling, and her fear and self-deprecating doubt is allowed to radiate through in small and poignant moments of panic.

Allowing a person to dominate you completely is daunting enough, but to meet a man from the internet in a warehouse and allow him to do so would be positively terrifying, and the author doesn’t forget this even as Tessa allows herself to relish in the experience. I thoroughly enjoyed this read. It’s well-written, and erotic in all the right places.

Excerpt:

Tessa fidgeted nervously as she smoothed the wrinkles from her figure hugging pencil skirt. Shifting her gaze from the countryside rushing by, she glanced impatiently at her phone again; nothing. The last words she had read that morning from Him had been today is the day Tessa. She had scrolled up and down the list of messages she had received from Him countless times as she had sat there, double-checking and triple checking to ensure that she would fulfill His instructions exactly. You will catch the 10.13 train to London Victoria and alight when I tell you. You will then go to the front of the station and take the nearest taxi. Tell him to take you to Court Road. When you arrive there you will see two post boxes. Get out of the car, pay him and await instructions.

An involuntary shiver ran the full length of her spine as she sat on the train, waiting, anxiously waiting for that message. She perched on the edge of the seat, waiting for each stop, knowing she might have to dash for the door to make sure she didn’t miss the stop, and then her phone vibrated in her trembling hand. Now it said and with that Tessa stood and moved to the door. She appraised her reflection in the glass of the door – green satin blouse, black cardigan, black pencil skirt, sheer black nylons and her comfortable black slip on patent heels. He had requested she wear her turquoise underwear for their meeting, so Tessa had thought that accessorizing her flame red hair with a forest green blouse would also please Him. She had an insatiable need to please this man like nothing she had ever felt before.

He had crashed headlong into her life some three weeks earlier. Tessa had always been fascinated with the Dominant submissive lifestyle, and she was – she felt, a very submissive person. In her real life people knew her as a feisty, headstrong and passionate woman; no one would ever have described her as submissive. But then she had learned over time that being submissive didn’t mean she had to be a doormat, it meant to her that she wanted to hand over her control, her welfare, her safety, to someone else. Throughout her life she had maintained an iron grip on her personal control, organized to the extreme in her work and home life, highly respected in her profession as a Personal Assistant, so used to controlling others to ensure success. But what she truly wanted deep down inside, was a man who could take her to that special place of freedom she had heard and read so much about. To experience true freedom within her mind.

She had signed up to a lifestyle website to learn more about what it was to attain this ‘sub-space’ she had heard about. Peppering her profile with photographs she felt were ‘artistic’, and writing a personal passage about who she was had attracted plenty of admirers, but no one she had particularly connected with. She wasn’t looking to find a soul mate, or even a playmate, just someone to discuss her thoughts and passions and desires with. It was out of the blue that a message had dropped into her inbox. He handled each conversation they had with courtesy and interest, drawing more and more information out of her without her even realizing. Or maybe she did and she was already walking towards this man instinctively, already feeling the urge to please Him in any way He desired. She couldn’t place when her thoughts turned to Him entirely- it wasn’t long after they had started talking. He had even managed to find out where she worked, and after a few days of messaging back and forth, He called her anonymously at her desk. He had used a fake name to convince reception to pass Him through to her, and when He spoke, He had teased her with His low voice pressed to her ear. “Imagine this voice Tessa, speaking in your ear in person, knowing that whatever I say next, you must submit without question...” At that point Tessa felt the intense pangs of fear and panic that she had been hunted down so easily, what else did this man know about her in but a few days? She did not even know His name...

Two days later she met Him for the first time. She had just had a difficult meeting in the city and had been dropped off at the local car pool to collect her car when she had been pressed firmly against her door from behind.

“Hello Tessa,” He had breathed in her ear. “I suggest you get in my car.” Near paralyzed with fear she turned slowly and looked straight into intense sparkling brown eyes, flecked with green, there was no way she would deny Him, all of her life-long fantasies were coming true. They had gone to a local park, where He had run His hands over her shaking body, entwined His fingers in her hair and pulled her to His lips where they kissed deeply and passionately, her body melting further with each kiss and caress. His hands were so gentle, but firm enough to know that there really was no escape. He worked over her clothed body, gradually relaxing her until He slipped His hand under her top and slid His fingers inside the lacy material of her bra, slowly releasing her right breast. Her heaving chest betrayed her fear and lust, a deep red flush creeping across her as He leaned in and sucked her nipple deep into His mouth. She moaned loudly, eyes closing and arching her back to push into Him, taking her so close to the edge of climax then instinctively stopping His exploration of her body. Pulling away from her, He held her gaze, fingers once more tightly wrapped in her hair.

“I am going to enjoy you,” He uttered as she gasped to regain her composure. Every word He spoke to her was like a lightning bolt straight to her sex. Deep and powerful, she had to know more about Him whatever the cost.

The Beginning

Time for another flash fiction! This one is brought to you courtesy of a werewolf dream. Hope you enjoy, and don't forget to explore the other great flashers for the week.

*Surprisingly, this post has no language or violence, to speak of. Hmm.*

A cold wind cut through the house, drawing Madeleine out of a deep sleep. The old house creaked under the howling winds outside and rain pelted the windows. Tree branches scraped at the glass, and the four year old girl pulled her knees to her chest amid the oversize comforter and cast wide eyes around the shadowed room.

Her feet hit cold hardwood floors and she snatched her teddy bear off the bed to carry down the hall with her. A flickering light shone from her mother’s room, casting dancing shadows on the peeling wallpaper in the hallway. Madeleine swallowed as she crept up to the door with quiet steps, the bear clutched to her chest. She peered around the door and found her mother kneeling on the floor in the middle of a pentagram. Red candles burned on the outer edges, and a bowl of oils sat in front of her, shimmering light reflecting of the surface.

Madeleine listened as her mother began whispering words foreign to the young child’s ears. The whisper built to a frenzied chant, the words echoing off the walls of the room. The floors began to shake and Madeleine drew back against the wall, terrified tears streaming down her cheeks. A door slammed open downstairs, rain driving into the foyer and hitting the floor with violent force as the moon peered out from clouded skies. The windows began to shake, and Martha’s voice grew stronger.

The candlelight snuffed out with a gust of wind and the house fell into stunning darkness, illuminated only by flashes of lightning. Madeleine swallowed as her eyes struggled to focus. She glanced down the hall towards her room, and a bolt of lightning lit the hallway.

A beast blocked her path. He rose almost to the ceiling on all four paws, his head dipped low and green eyes staring at her in the night. Saliva hanging from his jowls glinted in the lightning, and as quickly as she’d seen him, the monster disappeared when the light faded. Her heart racing, Madeleine froze. She had no idea where to go. Her mother’s voice still floated from the bedroom, the chant growing as the storm raged harder.

Another flash of lightning illuminated a second beast. He stood behind the first, eyeing Madeleine down. Eyes wide, she pulled the teddy bear to her face and sank down the wall. Tears streaked across her face and hit her arm as they dripped from her chin. Terror filled her, forcing the air from her lungs.

A cold nose pressed against her cheek, and Madeleine whimpered. The monster snorted against her, moisture from his nose pulling her hair with it as he pulled back. The second beast approached and sniffed her bear before licking her hand softly. They walked past her, into the bedroom. Martha’s chants stopped suddenly.

“No.” Her voice was barely a whisper, but Madeleine heard it in the lull of the storm.

A man answered. “Yes. The gods have spoken.”

“This is not the work of the gods,” she said, malice lacing her voice. “This is the work of a demon.”

“Demon or god, the oils have never lied to us,” said another man. “She is mine.”

“No,” said his comrade. “She is too young.”

“The butterfly-effect will be too strong,” Martha whispered.

A growl resonated deep into Madeleine as she listened. She stood and ran back to her room, not wishing to hear anymore. The bed was comforting, and when she pulled the covers over her head she felt as though nothing could get her. A loud thud came from the hallway, followed by a snarl. With shaking hands, she pulled the covers tighter around her as her door swung open.

Heavy steps approached her bed. She tensed as a nose pushed into her back. It persisted until she slowly turned to face the monster. His bright blue eyes bore into hers and he laid his head on the bed with a sigh.

Madeleine stared at his sad eyes. She pulled the teddy bear closer to her chest with one arm and slowly reached out with the other hand. Swallowing, she squeezed her eyes closed and laid her fingers on his surprisingly soft fur. She held her breath, expecting him to explode like the forgotten bombshell. He angled his head to her touch and licked her hand before he was ripped from the covers.

She screamed as the comforter was torn away. Scrambling up on the pillows, Madeleine tried to gain leverage from the beasts fighting in her room. One threw the other into her dresser. Panting heavily, he rose as the aggressor approached the bed and hit him with a shoulder.

Madeleine fell off the bed in her fear and crawled out of the door as the wolves raged in battle over her. Martha snatched her up in the hallway and ran out the front door, a small suitcase in her other hand. Rain pelted them, driving like bullets into the thin fabric on Madeleine’s back. From the woods surrounding their home, no fewer than fifty wolves emerged from each side to ensure they didn’t flee. The two groups stared at each other across the expanse of her front yard, growling at each other with their hackles raised.

Panting behind them drew Madeleine’s attention, and she watched as the two wolves emerged from her house. Bleeding and wounded, they walked a distance apart from each other. They didn’t stop, but limped into the woods.

The howl echoing into the cold night air shot chills down Madeleine’s spine.
