BLURB:

When a series of failed relationships and business ventures have Monica Jackson doubting her self-worth, she turns to spell casting to attract positive energy and the opportunities needed to achieve her goals.  But can Monica’s belief in spells restore her belief in herself?

Monica creates a spell to find her soul mate, and one to ensure the success of her new romantic event planning company, Enhance Your Romance.  Monica is confident she has found her niche until divorce lawyer Reed Walker opens a practice next door to her office.  The anti-marriage slogan plastered on his office window, and his down-on-love clients, quickly prove detrimental to Monica’s business.  When his arrival appears to trigger a string of bad luck, Monica fears one of her spells sent negative energy into the universe and it has returned to her threefold.  Although Reed is beyond sexy, and she admires his self-confidence, she’ll do whatever it takes to get the universe back on her side, and Reed out of her life. No way is she losing another business.

Reed finds himself attracted to Monica’s beauty and her optimism. His job and his parents’ divorce have made him a pessimist, especially when it comes to love. However, he soon finds that Monica’s pro-love attitude is rubbing off on him, causing him to lose his edge.  If Reed doesn’t distance himself from Monica, he’ll likely destroy his reputation as a pit bull divorce lawyer.

Can Monica and Reed look past what they might be losing to realize the love they have found?

Excerpt:

Prologue

“A spell … ” Hope mused, then her face lit up. “If there’s a spell to attract a man to a woman, there must be one to repel women from a man. Right?”

“Spells shouldn’t involve negative energy. Sending out negative energy can cause it to return threefold. They aren’t intended to harm someone or make them do something against their will.” Jordan had drilled this into her head.

“I wouldn’t be making Kyle do anything against his will. I’d be warning women to stay away from him.”

Sounded borderline.

“Please,” Hope whined, picking a clump of batter from her long, wavy hair.

Monica let out a defeated groan. “All right.” Hope would never actually cast the spell anyway. When they were young, Hope refused to wear a Casper costume for Halloween because she didn’t believe in ghosts. She was closed-minded when it came to paranormal or New Age beliefs. And you had to truly believe in a spell for it to work.

Monica set down the bowl of salt and grabbed a pencil and pad of paper off her desk and handed them to Hope. “Write this down. It’s called,” she tapped a hot pink nail against her lip, “the dirtbag spell. Take one of Kyle’s socks, fill it with dirt, and add a photo of him. It’s critical you aren’t in the photo.” Monica paced, tightening the sash on her lavender silk robe. “Include something of his like … ”

“His new Rolex?”

Personally, Monica would list the watch on eBay and pray for a bidding war. But Hope, no matter how ticked off, was too timid to sell Kyle’s precious watch, and too frugal to risk damaging it by mixing it with dirt.

“That’s fine. Sew up the sock and bury it in your front yard. It’ll warn all women he’s a dirtbag.”

Hope poised the pencil against her lower lip, reviewing the spell. “Don’t I have to say something when I bury it, like a chant?”

What happened to being spell ignorant?

“Bury it in the moonlight while saying … ” Monica scrambled for a few rhyming lines, “moonlight, glowing bright, warn all women in your sight, the man who lives in this house, is a dirtbag and a total louse.”

“Perfect.” Hope sprang from the bed, looking inspired. “Kyle’s at work. I’m going over to the house right now to bury that sock.” She turned and marched out, a woman on a mission.

Monica nibbled nervously on her fingernail. Hope wouldn’t seriously go through with casting the spell, would she? A big part of spell casting was psychological, focusing all your energy on making something happen. Monica had never seen Hope look so determined, or vindictive. Hopefully, if she did cast the spell the negative energy didn’t return threefold.

What was the worst that could happen?

Eliza Daly’s first attempt at creative writing was in fourth grade. She and her friends were huge Charlie’s Angels fans and she would sit in her bedroom at night writing scripts for them to act out at recess the following day. She was Kelly Garrett. Fast forward to the present, she’s still writing stories about beautiful women who always get their men. The journey from fourth grade script writer to published author wasn’t an easy one, but it was always an adventure and the final destination was well worth it.

When Eliza isn’t traveling for her job as an event planner, or tracing her ancestry roots through Ireland, she’s at home in Milwaukee working on her next novel, bouncing ideas off her husband Mark, and her cats Quigley and Frankie.

Happy Tuesday! Brrr...it's cold out up here in Ohio, but the kids are back in school today so I can't complain. Today, I'm hosting Juliette Springs with an interview and a bit about her release, The Karma Chronicles. Enjoy!

Now the Spirits say she may be his “other.” Sean knows what he did was deplorable, but if he doesn’t convince Vanessa to forgive him, he’ll lose a lot more than the love of his life.

Interview:

Tell us a little about yourself, please.
I started reading romance novels at the age of eleven and have been hooked since.  My preferences are Romance, YA and New Adult.
In my other life I teach ELA to middle school students. I’m also a mother of three beautiful children (two girls and  a boy). I have a B.A. in English and a Masters in Special Education. I also love to write poetry (when I can find the time). My dream is write full-time and that’s one of my goals for 2013.

What about your latest release?
My latest series The Karma Chronicles~Vanessa’s Story started as my NaNo project. It was fun to write. I wanted to write a short romance about a young woman who gets hurt and the ex wants her back. I wanted the ex to suffer a bit too.  I threw in some “darker” elements (racism) and the book was born. It was fun to write.

Ok, let’s get down to the fun stuff. If you were stranded on a lush tropical island, and all of your basic needs were met, what two items would you have with you? What person would be with you? Remember, you’re stuck there for an indefinite period with only each other to occupy the time.
Since I have to be entertained and satisfied I would bring a supply of romance novels and magazines (for entertainment purpose). For satisfaction I would bring my significant other (for the pleasure aspect).

If you could play opposite any of your lead characters, which one would it be and why?
I would play opposite Ivan/Khafil from Sarim’s Scent. Besides being rich and a vampire-he’s a jerk (at least when first met). I would get immense satisfaction in making him humble.

You’re locked in a closet with Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale, three paperclips and a string. How do you get out?
Why would I want to leave?  J
Name five things you can do with a pencil.
Write poetry, Doodle on a sheet of paper, Stand it up on the floor, balance it on my nose and throw it (sharpened) at annoying people.

Who’s your favorite character from your book(s)? Why? Don’t worry, we won’t tell.
Vanessa is my favorite character. She stands her ground and gets the respect and love she’s due.

Where can we find you around the vast interwebs?

What about your books? Where are they being sold at?

Excerpt:

Oh, come on! Her body whimpered. He stood there in black boxer briefs that hugged the tight cheeks of that ass she knew so well. In a tickling fit, she had bitten the right cheek playfully and the noise he had made was so hilarious that it had sent her into a fit of giggles. His lean waist grew into a broad, muscled back. She remembered feeling the shift and bunch of those muscles beneath her fingers, digging into the skin with her nails as he thrust powerfully above her.

He turned and went still when he saw her. His brown eyes held hers for what felt like a breathless eternity. She couldn’t speak, couldn’t look away.

Alessandro took a step towards her, and Bree jerked backwards, coming up painfully against the refrigerator door handle. He winced and moved to her side.

“Are you all right?” He asked, his fingers rubbing the sore spot in the center of her back.

Excerpts:

Naughty Tales

Princess Bernadette had not yet known the touch of a man. Well truthfully she had been touched a little just not in the way where you lose your virtue. To her parents and her kingdom however she was as pure as the mountain snow, and she aimed to keep it that way. She liked to go for walks in the woods near the castle to clear her mind, and relax after a strenuous day of lessons, and activities her parents thought she needed to stay busy with. One particularly ordinary afternoon she was walking through the woods when a strange light caught her eye. There in the middle of the woods was some type of orb that was a bright brilliant orange. She was not one to go poking things she did not know about but this particular orb looked very intriguing. She found herself drawn to it, and certainly thought it must be some type of magic. Part of her wanted to turn away as the allure of the unknown both excited and terrified her. She was pulled towards the light and even reached out to touch it. When she did her arm disappeared inside of it, and she felt something brush against her arm. She jerked her arm back and started to run away, but curiosity got the best of her and she stuck her head in. She was shocked by what she saw and thought she better get back to her castle when she toppled over and landed right in the middle of the madness.

The Siren's Song
William breathed in the crisp sea air and looked around at the men on his boat. Nothing made him happier than sailing on the open sea. It was a beautiful day and the people would be pleased with all the goods he was bringing them. He felt alive and free when he was on the ocean. His father wanted him to stop traveling and take over the company. He could not picture a life behind a desk. William loved adventure.
The Captain of the ship sighted an island to the right of them, and William followed his gaze thinking it looked quite beautiful.

"Perhaps we will stop and explore it on our way home gentlemen." It looked untouched, and there was nothing William enjoyed more than a new discovery.

The song was faint at first, and William thought he had imagined it. It was beautiful and sweet. It was unlike anything he had ever heard. It surrounded him and filled him with joy and longing. He looked around at the other men to see if they had heard it, but they were going about their business. Walking over to the side of the boat he leaned a little over the side to see if he could hear the song clearer.

Review: Blood Purple

Good morning, and happy Tuesday! Today, I'm hosting a review for Blood Purple, a paranormal romance. Enjoy!

Blurb:

In a world we think we know, live other races entirely hidden from the mortal perspective. Creatures of legend, of fable and myth, their very history and nature have allowed them to walk side by side with humans since time immemorial. They are warriors, they are hunters, and they are Algula Vampire. And in their own midst, a battle is brewing for supremacy, for dominance, that can and will affect all around them. Old hatred never dies and vengeance is a fiery sword that cuts a bloody swath.

Excerpt:

Hamza walks into the room with his guard looking at Nikole’s still body lying on the table. “Is she dead?” he questions.

“No sir, she passed out while we were in the middle of the procedure. We were doing like you instructed and burning her body with the needles when she went unconscious.  We thought it best to come get you right away.”

Hamza looks over her body, placing his fingers to her neck and feeling only a small hint of life.  His lips curve up in excitement as he anticipates what is yet to come. “Good, leave us alone.” He starts to walk around the table staring at her naked and bloodied body.

The room emptied out while Hamza continued to circle the table. He tried to decide what to do with this dead weight prisoner. Leaning over her body, he backhanded her jaw, the cracking of her bones deafening in the silence of the room. He heard her moan in agony while she slowly came to consciousness.

“Nikole, I think it would be best if you just gave me what I asked of you.As soon as you tell me what we want to know this pain will all stop.” Taking his knife from the sheath on his belt, he placed the cold blade to her cheek. “I will cut your pretty little face apart.  Don’t think I won’t.”Taking the tip of the blade he breaks the skin at the top of her left cheek and slowly cut lines into her face.  Droplets of blood ran down her cheek staining her flesh as he slashed her face.Nikole’s voice is gone from all the screaming she has done and all she can do is heave a cry.Her eyes are still forced open, not even tears can form since she can’t blink.“Come on little Princess, just tell me where Zayn is so I can kill him. I promise this will all stop."

Review:

Blood Purple follows Nikole, the Algula princess, her brother Zayn, the King, and Adara, Nikole's best friend.

The plot is solid in this piece, but I had a few issues with the execution. There are several tense changes that drew me out of the story, and I couldn't understand Nikole's descent from a previously strong, potential warrior, into a blithering jealous fool because of the lover her brother takes.

Zayn was my favorite character from this one. Throughout, he's strong and reliable. Overall, I enjoyed the story. If you like a quick paranormal read, this one might be for you.

AUTHOR INFORMATION:

I’ve been writing since first setting pencil to steno pad at age 8. A year later, I began developing the world of my current series-in-progress, and even created its title, The Silver Sphere. Now, with the support of years of experience, those early maps and back stories have progressed into what I hope is a fresh and entertaining take on the classic young adult fantasy adventure.

Despite my frequent escapes into parallel worlds, I root myself firmly in my very real family and community. When not pacing the yard maniacally after every few pages of writing, I spend as much time as possible hanging out with my studly 9-year-old son, and my inspirational wife Jenna. I also coach several local youth sports teams in Beverly Hills, and alternate between yelling at my two crazy Corgis and hiking with my trained German Shepherd.

For more, join me in my favorite fantasy worlds, from Lord of the Rings to the creations of C.S. Lewis, Anne McCaffrey and Terry Brooks. Even more importantly, stop by and say hello on my Facebook page at AuthorMichaelDadich, tweet me at @MichaelDadich, and stalk my website at http://www.thesilversphere.org.org.

Ugly Socks Blog Hop!

I fibbed.

That wasn't my last post yesterday. Actually, I have this post for the weekend, and your chance to win several prizes from me. In the spirit of the holidays, I'm offering up an e-book from my backlist, of your choice, and a hand crocheted pair of booties to warm your feet in the cold, heartless winter months.

Speaking of cold, it's colder than I care for over here in Ohio. We got the tail end of the blizzard that swept through Wisconsin and those areas, and the wind chill is currently settled at 19. It's truly breathtaking to step out of a warm home or store and into the frigid wind.

What's everyone like to do for the holidays? My husband and I have two young-ish children, and so we spend the day assembling Lego's or taking the stupid threads out of Barbie's hair. (Special thanks to Mattel for that little security feature. It's always fun to break out the blowtorch to open a Barbie up.)

I think I'm going to start a few new traditions, though. Things like...open THIS gift Christmas Eve. Elf On The Shelf looks cute, too, and even though I'm about to have two non believers in the next year or so I'd love to start it up. I'll be snatching one up at the after Christmas sales at the mall. Let's call him Elvie McFiddlebum.

I figure I can set Elvie up in some awesome situations since my kids are almost eleven and eight. He can get caught in the hot tub with Barbie. He can binge on tequila and Vicodin. (Okay, I'll save that for high school days.) He might t.p. a room or three, or maybe a certain fancy pants car in the garage. Oh, oh! Since I have a deranged mind, I'll propose a new one. Let's drape Elvie from the ceiling on invisible line and drag a feather across the kid's cheek.

Guess I'd better start saving up for therapists bills later.

Christmas is my favorite time of year, except for the cold. I'll take summer over winter anytime. Here's some blurbs from the backlist so you can choose which one you'd like, Future Winner! Enjoy, and thanks for dropping by. Don't forget to check out the other blogs associated with the hop. Their links are below.

The Life And Times of Delila:

Delila has roamed the Earth for over one thousand years with her maker, Alaric. She has everything a vampire could want: Beauty, brains, a booming business, and an ability to read human emotions.

When a werewolf makes an imprint in her life, Delila feels she may have finally found the soul mate she has been seeking. But when everything goes terribly wrong Delila finds herself burdened with a young half breed child to protect from the evil forces of her world.

The Reign of Delila:

When you rule the vampires, you can expect a few hiccups here and there.

But Delila McAllister hardly expects to find newborn vampires wreaking havoc on her world. No one is sure where the little beasts are coming from, or why they’re not decimating unknowing human populations.

Even as she’s trying to figure out one problem, another arises. Her Alpha werewolf daughter, Ana, is torn between her loyalty to Delila and her pack’s desire for war.

Delila knows what she has to do. But can she save her race, herself, and her daughter?

By Blood, Bound:

Mel McIntyre thought she was all set in this life. She had a fabulous job, a cute apartment and a cat. But when her sister dies and her last living relative, her nephew Joey, disappears, Mel finds everything she knows turned upside down.
Unwillingly thrown into a world she never thought existed thanks to an almost fatal mistake made by Joey, Mel finds herself suddenly involved with a vampire named Levi. And she quickly discovers this relationship isn’t the good thing she thought it to be.
As Mel becomes a shell of her former self, can she find the strength to battle back? Or will she let the vampires win?

Siege of Shadows:

A neighbor, arrested, covered in his wife’s blood. A wolf stalking her. To top it all off, the new neighbor is trying to kill her—in her nightmares.

Billie is having one hell of a time with the new guy on the block. She can’t decide if she hates him or wants to take him to bed, for starters. And every time she dreams about him, she wakes up with dried blood on her body.

There’s only one explanation, but even Billie thinks she’s crazy for believing it. No way is her neighbor trying to kill her…

Right?

What I've Learned:

Abigail Jones is a former prostitute who buys her freedom from a Mexican cartel boss and forges a new life. Secure in the knowledge that she's escaped her past, Abigail's world falls apart when her brother's head is delivered to her in a brown paper box. And when the cartel boss sends an assassin to take her life, Abigail can't deny the danger she faces.

Encumbered with her brother's infant son and gripped by fear, Abby shares her story and the evidence her brother accumulated about the cartel to the police and finds herself abruptly thrust into Witness Protection.   Beginning a new life as Quinn, the recently divorced mother of little Paul and middle school guidance counselor, Abby is moved to a quiet neighborhood with quaint houses and white picket fences.

While Abby struggles to recreate herself and tries to focus on conforming to the rules of the program, not to mention life with a small child, the cartel continues their search for her.  And although life seems to slowly return to some form of normalcy, little does Abby know that her past is slowly closing in on her.

Barrage: Ryelee's Cowboy

Happy Thursday! Today I'm hosting a blog barrgae stop for Ryelee's Cowboy by Kathleen Ball. Enjoy, and Happy Holidays! This will be my last blog post until after the holidays.

Don't forget to enter for the giveaway!

Blurb:
Twenty-year-old Ryelee Snyder is pregnant and alone. Fortunately, she finds a job as a nanny to precocious four-year-old Rheenie Maloney. Life is perfect except for Horse Trainer, Clint Maloney. Ryelee feels his disapproval and is in constant fear of being fired.

Clint Maloney needs help with his daughter but he never bargained on Ryelee Snyder. The tall, gangly, girl is a menace. Clint spends too much of his time rescuing her from her latest mishap. Upon finding out about her pregnancy, Clint's feelings begin to change. He no longer views her as a nuisance but as a passionate woman with a generous heart.

Secrets, misunderstandings, and cattle rustling put an increasing strain on their relationship, until they finally turn from each other. Just as they seem to find their way back, Ryelee's part in the cattle rustling is unveiled. Ryelee fights unyieldingly to win the love of a lifetime.

Excerpt:
Ryelee sat on the edge of the seat, fearing the outcome of their conversation, but when she lifted her eyes to Clint, the tenderness in his brown eyes surprised her. She had always watched him from afar, too intimidated to look at him when he was close. She loved his rough, angular face and black curly hair. He usually kept it quite short, but it definitely needed a cut. Her eyes traveled downward to his strong, broad shoulders, and she wished she could lay her head on his shoulder and cry. She had a feeling that having his arms around her would make her feel protected. Suddenly, she realized she was staring and brought her gaze back up to his amused one.

“I’m sorry about this afternoon,” Ryelee started uneasily. “Rheenie asked about Texas history, and, well, the next thing I knew we were playing cowboys and Indians.” Not wanting to see the censure in his eyes, she looked down at her hands. “I didn’t know that Dottie would be here.”

“Ryelee, look at me,” Clint said, his voice gentle and coaxing. “This is your home too, and if you and Rheenie are having fun—safe fun—then so be it. The look of joy on her face when I drove up was priceless. That's what matter's. I heard some of what Dottie said to you, and it’s inexcusable.”

“It’s not true.”

“What’s not true?”

“I’m not ignorant. In fact, I’ve taken a few college classes,” she said with a tinge of defensiveness in her tone. It had been hard going but she did it. She completed each lesson and each assignment. Her grades had been good, but no one cared.

“Huh. Dottie said you dropped out of school.”

“I did only after she made it impossible for me to go to school without being ridiculed for being poor, having to get my clothes from the Church bin, and for being the town drunk's kid. Mrs. Steven the librarian took an interest in me. She helped me to get my GED and take a few on-line college classes.”

Clint got out of his chair, came around, and leaned against the front of his desk. Reaching down, he took Ryelee’s hand. “I’m sorry that you were bullied in school. It’s not right. But getting your GED and taking college courses are accomplishments that you should be proud of.”

Ryelee simply nodded her head. She didn’t feel proud. She knew she never would again, not after all the unspeakable things her father had done to her.

“Are the few clothes I’ve seen all that you have?”

Ryelee’s face flamed and she pulled her hand back. “Yes,” she whispered. There was never any money and…

“I pay you well enough, why don’t you go to town and get yourself a few new things?”

“I have to save every penny.” She turned away from him. “I need to have enough cash for when you throw me away, like my father did.”

“I don’t understand.”

“I know,” Ryelee said sadly. “I’ll get dinner going.” She stood.

“Wait a minute, Ryelee. Annie told me that you had nowhere to go. I guess I didn’t give it much thought.”

“There’s not much to tell. My father kicked me out. Noreen from the diner let me stay with her for a week or so. I waitressed to earn my keep. Then this job came up, and I jumped at it. I’ve always liked kids, and you have a good reputation in town.”

Clint nodded. “You’ve had a hard time of it. I’m sorry.”

Ryelee shrugged her shoulders. “Like I said, there’s not much to tell. I have to get dinner ready.” She didn’t wait for a reply. She wasn’t up to any more questions. She made a hasty escape.

“Kathleen Ball pulled at my heartstrings once again. In her typical way, this author crafted a story that touched every one of my emotions and pulled me so far into her story that I felt I was part of it.

My heart ached for pregnant Ryelee as she tried to move past her heartbreaking upbringing and make a life for herself. Her relationship with little Rheenie was heartwarming, and her love for Clint was tender. And though at times my stomach hurt for the way Ryelee was treated, I knew Ms. Ball would give us a romantic hero we could be proud of.

This reader has become a lifelong fan of Kathleen Ball and her wonderful stories, and I cannot wait for more.”-- ClassDreamer'84 - 5 Star
